The blog is about Indian born in 1970s Vs the Indians born in 1990s.
I call this as "two India" : one who started their internet with hotmail and others who started with gmail.
These two are two generations and look at internet differently. But hold on ...... Not just internet , their view about life is also different .
- Sidhartha opened their internet account in his 20s with Hotmail. Sids opened at his 10s with Gmail, hold on actually he was "invited" by Sups.
- Sidhartha thinks Sabbir Bhatia is god; Sids thinks Larry is cool but can work harder on gmail
- Sidhartha thought Yahoomail is cool ; Sids thinksYahoomail is too deckedup ; gmail is simple.
- Sidhartha used to send love letters on mail( it works , nobody knows Huss!); Sids used mails only for his college admission forms and resume sending. love ? what's that? Oh you mean date?
- Sidhartha (at 30s) and Sid (was teen) adopted facebook at the same time. Sidhartha thought Facebook is the best thing to happen in life- he spends a lot of time; Sids lives in FB (not facebook)but always thinks what next- twitter? Instagram? Tumblr?
- Shidhartha actually found most of his old classmates on Facebook; what a discovery ! he now plans reunion and is the collest guy in the group. He often tells proudly "check my facebook" He now plans facebooks party.... he is very happy about this cool thing but is sometimes confused ...is he is the coolest guy ( that day amithabha was telling about this new app..) ; suffers from "technology adoption crisis" . Sids? Facebooks is natural to his life ; he does not make any effort. His problem is FB keeps too much of his record and take away his privacy a lot "did't you hear Snowden fellow?" . He think "that Zukerberg guy is cool but that Karp guy of Tumblr is real cool dude; hey did you hear about this new guy who became famous last night only..." Shidhartha gets confused and searches after he reads it in newsfeed (RSSfeeds) and admires. He is always insecure " internet is open then how come this Sids nuts knows everything before him!"
- Shidhartha clicks on online adv - he thinks it is cool (what an Idea sirji) ; Sids does not , he think it is privacy invasion and wonders why these nuts puts adv of " organic food" when he is playing farmville . how stupid of them .
- Shidhartha used to play X-boX , he thought it is cool and got this stuff from his first visit to US; Sids plays Zenga games with "somebody " in California ; he always wins; this guys at US needs to work hard man .....
- Shidhartha "shuts down" when he is not online; Sids is always on .... (he does not have that button)
- Shidhartha now a days can "flipxxxx" something from home . He does it with lot of guessing ... will they deliver ? will they run away with his money ? credit card --no no man ... COD is best ! but he feels it is good and heoes not forget to tell "thanks you " (4 times) to the person who last delivered him a brand new "Alchemist" book other day (he does not try big stuffs)... mad or what....these young chaps are "lazy bums"... but he is confused sometimes and spend s lot of time hunting cheap bargains. Sids flipped a "xiaomi" (not iphone!) last week .. its cool he has read the reco from park in Facebook... it has to be good ...
But let us see how are they different otherwise in life:
- Shidhartha understood that "liberalization" was best thing to happen in India;
- Sid never understands what is liberalisation ! " you mean you never used to get MacD at your times? you mean that 'Maunmohan had to work hard to get MacD for you?"
In effect Sids never understand why Shidhartha behaves like this (this funny):
- Feels happy when he enters a Shopping mall; He thinks whatever people may tell India has made a lot of progress ... can't you see the lights and the stuffs you get now a days on shelves . Its a different story he does not purchase... But he can , right....
- Feels very happy when he gets a foreign assignment ; His old father (after his visit to his son when his "grandchild" was born) tells to his friends proudly " Nishikanta don't you know , my son got posted in US ,he lives in KALIfornia " (Americans needs his service for sometime as they do not have enough " workers"). Life is great there ! you know roads are so clean ! Cars are so big! Malls are so cool! People are so good they won't disturb you! Even dogs are so well behaved (dont poo-poo in roads) Lots of opportunity! you should tell you son to learn "software" and have good life ; India is good but second choice only if you can't go to US...." His friend is disturbed that his son has still not bought his first house ! grunts " stupid guy never listened to me ; anyway it is his life"
- Feels happy with his new Ford "the Josh machine" Stupid Maruti still stuck on "Kitna deta hain" very un- cool.
- Fells happy -Now a days he never goes to bank ; don't you know he has "online account"
- Feels happy " he can buy even undergarments with EMI"; He is king you know can do anything he wants ... thanks to Maunmohan, the smart guy!" Whatever others tell " India is shining"
- Felt bad about 2008!
- Feels bad if he does not get 10% increment. Don't they know How capable he is . don't they know he has been getting double digit increments for last 10 years; anyway he has lots of offer will hang all till he gets call from "consultant" . Why are the calls not coming .... Signal problem or what ?
- 7Mbps speed on Mobile ? Cool man ? India is chnaging Man ? He is happy
- Last dec he went to Hongkong for holiday , actually he took Dollars with him and nobody stopped him ... "see Maunmohan ed" open economy right?
- The account will continue ...
